What is the Run for a Reason Scholarship?
The Run for a Reason Scholarship provides collegiate financial assistance for high school seniors who will be graduating from a Forsyth County School. A special road race in the Cumming City Park is held every year as a fundraiser for the scholarship. Therefore, the more participation in the race, the more money that will be raised for the chosen scholarship recipients.
This scholarship pertains to students with at least a 2.5 GPA and those who participate in healthy lifestyle activities and extracurricular involvement. The goal of this scholarship program is to give 1 student from each high school in Forsyth County the opportunity to jumpstart his/her college career.
How much money will I receive if I am selected?
The amount of funds that will be distributed to the colleges of the scholarship winners cannot be determined until the final outcome of the race. The funds for the scholarship will be directly taken from the profitable proceeds of the Run for a Reason 5K Race/Walk. Therefore, it is encouraged that applicants promote the race throughout their school to increase the amount of funds available for the scholarship.
If you are selected to receive the scholarship, a check will be mailed to the college you will be attending the Fall semester of 2011. You will also be notified of the scholarship amount before the check is mailed to the college.
When will I know if I was selected from my school to receive the Run for a Reason 5K Scholarship?
The deadline for applications is April 29th, 2011. You will be notified by mail if you were selected to receive the Run for a Reason 5K scholarship after two weeks. Those students who are selected may be presented their recognition of the award on their senior honors night if applicable. Also, students may be asked to attend the medal award ceremony to accept the scholarship.
NOTE: A check will only be mailed to your college after proof of class acceptance and attendance has been documented.
